VICT Supports the Plan for Webb Dock Rail

Posted in Rail | Posted 6 years ago by VICT | Less than a minute to read

Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT) has welcomed the support to provide $1.5 million for a feasibility study to connect Webb Dock with Melbourne’s freight rail network. This initiative indicates a commitment to boosting the Victorian economy and demonstrates a need to improve infrastructure to the area.

Connecting Webb Dock to Melbourne’s freight rail network will reduce the number of truck movements on local roads, easing congestion on the city’s busy roads. This is in line with VICT’s innovation of handling truck services at the terminal.

Chief Executive Officer of VICT, Mr Anders Dømmestrup, expressed his support for the initiative, “As the new container terminal operating in the Port of Melbourne and the only international container terminal at Webb Dock, VICT is delighted to learn about the commitment to develop a rail connection to this area.

Mr Dømmestrup went on to remark, “This investment is great for Victoria’s economy and ensures the longevity of the port. An initiative that everyone should support!”
